Slow Day

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Local Time: Friday, March 31, 2006 - 8:45am

It was a slow day yesterday. I returned the motorcycle in the morning after a short ride, then wandered around for a couple hours. Read in the park. Half way through the 5th book of the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series I came to the conclusion that the series is a waste of time and stopped reading it. Read Culture Shock Thailand for a few hours, tried a Mexican restaurant in a vain attempt to satisfy my craving for good Mexican food. It did not please.

Tonight, feasting at the Night Market.

Riding Around ...

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Local Time: Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 10:34am

Well, I rented a motorcycle and hit the highway for 2 days. At 600TBT ($20 CND) a day for the motorcycle, this is not a cheap way to see Thailand. But convenient.

I went with Val Lange, a Canadian woman from Toronto I met here in Chiang Mai. We rode out to Chiang Dao to see the caves there, and spent the night before coming home the next day. It was a pretty short trip as motorcycles go, but nice. We got lost 3 times making our way out of Chiang Mai.

The caves were nice and fairly large. The usual limestone formations which the guides have named based on shape. Took over an hour to walk through the caves and out again.

The Night Market

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Local Time: Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 10:04am

I feasted at the Chiang Mai Night Market last night. Wow. Fried Noodles with Chicken and lemon juice to drink. Then, I had sticky rice with ripe mango for desert. I was stuffed. It was awesome.

The menu they brought me to choose from was huge. I could eat there every day for weeks.

Afterwards I looked around at the stuff they were selling besides food. Gameboy games, pirated DVDs, cloth and clothing, pictures, drawings, tin sculptures of some kind. Weapons. Wow, they were selling hand guns on the street. Well, maybe they were fake, I didn't pick one up and take a look. However, the butterfly knives looked very real, and the throwing knives of various sizes. Japanese katanas were on display and a couple sword styles I didn't recognize.

Tonight, the Sunday market, where they will have more food. :-)

I need some new shoes too. These ones are starting to come apart.

I'm Back ...

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Local Time: Saturday, March 24, 2006 - 11:40am

Well, I'm back.

Seth is here in Chiang Mai now. I've just got to find him.

I'm thinking of trying some Thai cooking course. I'd really like to find out how to make sweet sticky rice with black bean sauce. That is good stuff.
